The journey

Paro – Thimphu – Punakha – Wangdue – Gasa – Paro — a day-by-day plan operated by our licensed guides, with overnight stops, drive times and highlights confirmed before you travel.

Arrive Paro – Thimphu

Arrival and transfer to Thimphu. Evening visit to the National Memorial Chorten and Changangkha Lhakhang. Overnight at hotel, Thimphu.

Thimphu heritage sites

Visit Tashichho Dzong, Simtokha Dzong (one of Bhutan's oldest fortresses, built in 1629), and the Zorig Chusum Institute of Traditional Arts & Crafts. Overnight at hotel, Thimphu.

Thimphu – Punakha

Cross Dochula Pass and its 108 memorial chortens, then visit Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, and Chimi Lhakhang. Overnight at hotel, Punakha.

Punakha – Wangdue Phodrang

Visit Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, perched on a ridge above the Punakha valley, and the nearby weaving village of Rinchengang. Overnight at hotel, Punakha.

Punakha – Gasa

Drive north along the Mo Chhu river valley to Gasa Dzong, a 17th-century fortress built to defend against Tibetan invasions and rarely visited by international tourists. Overnight at hotel, Gasa.

Gasa – Paro

Return south via Punakha and Dochula Pass to Paro, stopping at Tamchog Lhakhang and Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples. Overnight at hotel, Paro.

Taktsang Monastery hike & departure

Hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, Bhutan's most sacred pilgrimage site, before transferring to Paro International Airport.
